The Balsa frame components - note that the Datum WL is marked on all pieces. Not included above is the pair of breast hooks used to form the gunwale curve at the bow or the fantail chines.

The backbone has been cut to accommodate the sterntube and the tube has been epoxied to the stern most part of the backbone. Before cutting the backbone draw vertical lines across it to help align the pieces when gluing the tube in place.

With the sterntube in place and the frames glued the breasthook pieces and fantail chines are also fitted so that the chines can be fitted. Note that the frames are kept complete without any cut outs for the internal fit-out so that they retain sufficient strength for the fitting of the stringers and side planking.

A view onto the fantail structure.

The fantail planking is put on in vertical staves.

After the fantail has been planked the side planking can be fitted - all grain is vertical to ease it round the curves.

Having planked the sides, the frames can be cut to suit the internal fit-out - it is done at this stage when the topside planking adds strength and stiffness to the frames.

The bottom planking goes on starting from the stern - as it approaches the bow, the planking goes on in diagonal staves to go round the curve of the bow/forefoot.

The Fanny may be fitted out in a number of ways - as an open steam launch, open motor launch or with a tug type wheelhouse - I decided to go for the wheelhouse which is shown on the model drawings. The back of the wheelhouse may be open or closed off with the bulkhead shape given.

Here the wheelhouse sides and front are temporarily fitted with tape to check their shape.

I was going to fit her out as a simple open launch without the wheelhouse and you can see here that changing my mind and fitting the wheelhouse I have had to put an insert into the foredeck. Roof beams have been added.

Another view with the wheelhouse ready to add the roof top.

A view of the cockpit showing the seat fronts and coaming added. There is plenty of room for batteries, mini rudder servo etc.

The coaming goes round the front of the wheelhouse.
